What is Science?
Science is a wide-ranging subject with many different facets of study. In a nutshell, science is the pursuit of knowledge and understanding in relation to the natural world and how it works. Using systematic methodology, observation, data, evidence, experiments, testing and critical analyses (among many other aspects), science can help us to better understand the history of the natural world around us.
What are the Main Areas of Science?
Science covers three main branches of study: Physics, Chemistry and Biology. The study of physics centers on the laws and properties that control the behaviour of all matter. Physics can involve both tangible and intangible matter. For example, physicists use scientific laws and theories to study key areas of everyday life, such as energy, electricity, mechanics and forces. Chemistry is closely related to physics. Chemistry involves the study of chemical reactions and properties of matter. Chemistry is vital in almost every product that we use, from bleach to shampoo, to packaged foods and drink. Chemistry is essentially the basis for a lot of the things that we come into contact with on a daily basis. Biology on the other hand is the study of life. Biologists will study living organisms, how they're formed and how they function and grow. Science is extremely complex and each of the above three mentioned branches of science not only overlap with one another, but can all be further broken down into numerous sub-categories.
Why is Science Important?
Science is a central and extremely important part of our daily lives. From gardening to medicine, food to recycling, clothes to technology; science is everywhere. Science is rapidly transforming the world we live in and gives us a logical explanation of a lot of things we take for granted. Without science, we would not be able to answer questions such as 'Why is the sky blue?' or 'Why do the leaves fall from the trees?' This shows us that science isn't only important to scientists, but to everyone. A basic understanding of science is crucial for creating conversation about science and its related issues and debates.
What are the Benefits of Studying Science?
Whether you're studying science at a primary, secondary or higher education level, you'll undoubtedly gain knowledge, capabilities and transferable skills that will help you to question and better understand the world around you. The work-related competencies developed whilst studying science, such as critical thinking, project management, data analysis, team-work, communication and technology skills, are highly sought after by employers. There are countless sectors and jobs that require candidates to have a solid scientific background, whether directly or indirectly. These include jobs in medicine, engineering, IT, architecture, teaching and many more. In regard to younger students, science also allows for the development of patience, perseverance and problem-solving, which are all essential for future academic growth.
How can Science Posters be Used?
Science posters can be used in any scientific learning environment to solidify pupils' understanding and help recap topics that may not have been fully understood in the lesson. Posters displaying information about the periodic table, different apparatus, cell structures, separating mixtures and evaluating data, are all relevant to secondary school students in any academic year, making them ideal classroom resources. Posters can also be used by teachers throughout lessons as useful reference points, or as lesson starters to refresh information taught previously.
What are Science Pocket Posters?
Science Pocket Posters are uniquely compact and colourful revision guides that will help students to easily understand key content in their own time. Comprising our educational science posters into one pocket-sized book, the revision guide is easy-to-understand and packed-full of bold designs and colourful images. Breaking down topics such as the human skeleton, the heart and circulation and separating mixtures, our KS2 and KS3 Pocket Posters are the best way to solidify classroom learning and ensure all pupils have the scientific knowledge to feel confident when it comes to tests and assessments.
At Daydream Education, we provide educational science posters, revision guides, interactive software and apps to supplement classroom learning and ensure students' understanding.
